June 14th I will be on a stage in that bikini and those stripper heels showing off all the progress I've made. I'm anxious, excited, nervous, and super proud of all the progress i've made so far. I still can't quite picture what competition day is going to be like or what I'm going to look like but I think I'm already hooked! This will probably be the first of many.

Saying that though, this week has been really tough. I was getting frustrated that the scale wasn't moving. Seriously, 3 weeks no scale movement! I know I've been making progress because i can see it and feel it but the scale should have moved at least a little bit! Even a 0.5 pound loss and I would have been happy! So with that frustration I decided it was time to add in a lot more cardio and interval training to get the stubborn fat off.

Also those who know me well know that I actually am not a huge fan of food. Yep. I know, its weird but in college I remember telling people I would love it if I could just get all my essential nutrients from an IV and just leave enough room for empty calories from treats. I do have a huge sweet tooth though. So this whole strict meal plan thing, I didn't think would be too much of a problem eating the same thing everyday, at the same time... My problem is actually eating everything I'm supposed to. I have a very busy job in which I'm not necessarily at my desk or in the office when I think I will be. So skipping meals happens a lot. My first thought was, "Hey no big deal. I consumed less calories than my body is burning so I'll lose more!" ::Insert loud buzzer noise here!:: NO! Unfortunately what I was doing is not fueling the muscles am trying so hard to train and develop. Knowing that, it's still hard to get in all my meals but I'm making a conscious effort to get all of them in, on time, and finish them.

I bought a few new toys to help me do this. First a few weeks ago I got this nifty little Six Pack cooler. It holds enough meals for the work day. And second I bought a jawbone UP24. As long as I use it right and track everything I'm eating it give me a good picture of my progress. Plus I set alarms so the band vibrates at my meal times! That's pretty cool!

So with adding in extra cardio and still working on getting in all the macros I need to, this week has been really hard. I'm exhausted, I'm cranky, I'm sore. But I'm really proud of how this is all coming together. For supplementation, I'm back on MNS 3, Catalyst, Nighttime Recovery and starting this weekend I'm going to add in ThermoPlus. And of course Spark whenever necessary.
Sisters from different colleges all over the country joined the Actives from UCSD for a luncheon where we enjoyed the company of one another knowing that we all shared one the values of Chi Omega. At the beginning of the luncheon we had each member come up and place a pin on a map of the US to represent their college chapter.
I'm so honored to be the President of the Alumnae group because I have the opportunity to meet so many with so many accomplished women as well as the UCSD women who are on their way to being superstars in their own right.
Not only did we sit and chat and eat lunch, but we also raised a lot of money for a very important cause. The Make A Wish foundation has be the national philanthropy for Chi Omega since 2002 and nation wide Chi Omega has raised over $9.5 million dollars and volunteered over half a million hours to the Make A Wish Foundation. On Sunday a couple of our local San Diego sisters who are Independent distributors for various companies; Stella & Dot, Scensty, Origami Owl, and I was there with Advocare products, as well as one store owner, Perspectives at Moonlight Beach (a must see store if you are ever in the Encinitas/Luecadia area!) set up tables and agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to The San Diego Alumnae Group's Make a Wish fund so we can grant their second wish to a deserving child. In addition to the proceeds all donated an item or two to a raffle. The raffle itself with only 10 items raised $400! Way to Go Chi O's!!!
We haven't figured out exactly how much we raised from the proceeds yet because all of the vendors agreed to extend the donations to online sales over the next few days as well. I am continuing that as well. I will donate 20% of my proceeds from any orders through April 13th. Also I'm gearing up for a May Pool/Beach Prep group challenge (Finishing just in time to look amazing for Memorial Day parties!) and I will donate $1 a Pound for every Chi Omega (and family) pound lost! Extra motivation to get husbands/boyfriends on the challenge too. I've been super busy with this new training program and trying to give 100% to this bikini prep. But guess what it's been awesome. Ok so maybe not awesome all the time but From Feb 3 to March 1 I lost 12 pounds! Seriously! Progress pics will come soon!

How did I do it? I started with an Advocare cleanse and stuck to the diet plan very closely. If you've read some of my older posts you know I fudged a little bit when I did the 24 day challenge the first time. But this time I really wanted to see how great my results could be. I planned on going on to the Max Phase but my meal plan from my Bikini Coach came in and I decided to try to get used to that and I'm just going to take the CorePlex and OmegaPlex. Omegas are super important and Advocare makes some of the best ones around!

Eating: So my meal plan from my coach is super bland and boring. I seriously eat the same thing at the same time everyday. except for my high carbs days every 4th day when I get to have oatmeal and brown rice. I follow quite a few bikini competitors and see their meals and I get a little jealous I'm not going to lie but with the results I'm getting I think it's totally worth it. I don't really like food all that much anyway... (or I'll just keep telling myself that).

Workouts:
I've been following a plan from simplysheredded.com and it's been really good. that plus a few small group classes at my gym and I've really seen results. Yesterday I woke up early so I jumped out of bed took some O2Gold and mixed up some Arginine Extreme and spark up for the car ride to the gym and I'm not lying when I tell you I felt like superwoman! I PRd in my Squats and Dead lifts and set myself up for a fabulous day. If only work could have gone so smoothly.

So it's going great! Pics to come soon!
I say this with equally as much enthusiasm as anxiety and nervousness. For the next 5 months my life will revolve around eating and training. I'm currently still in the process of selecting my bikini coach but I'm narrowing that down and will have made a selection in the next few days.
I have decided to do the whole transformation using Advocare products. So for the non-believers or the skeptics out there let's see how this experiment works, because as much as the food and exercise matter supplementation makes a huge difference!
I'm kicking it all off with a 24 Day Challenge. Last time I lost 7 pounds total, this time I'm hoping for 5-7 pounds but mostly I'm looking to lose inches. Last time I did not take measurements and went solely based on what the scale told me. This time my measurements and weight taken down by a trainer at my gym (one that I really don't know at all so that was awkward) so they are completely unbiased (no rounding up/down). Also this time I have 2 friends doing the whole 24 day Challenge with me so I can't wait to see their results! After the 24 Day Challenge I'll be using products from the Performance Elite line
So today is Day 1 of my second 24 Day Challenge and Day 1 of Bikini Competition Prep. I can't remember who said it or I would give proper credit because it is genius!

He then went in to say the only fear we are born with is a fear of falling and a fear of loud noises. Notice we were not born with a fear of failure.

So I am doing a Spartan Race tomorrow, and I know I will more than likely have to do Monkey Bars. I've never liked monkey bars. I would even go so far as saying I'm afraid of them and have been since I was a kid. I just could never let go and reach for the next bar. Talk about Symbolism!

So knowing the spartan race was coming up, I've been practicing the monkey bars for the last few weeks. But guess what! This was my very first success school and I was blown away! It was such a great experience! You have to understand something if you don't know me personally, I'm a pretty even keeled person, I don't get fired up or excited about many things BUT this is now the second "big" Advocare event I've been to and I've been fired up by both of them! So strap in and get ready for this one because I am excited to share!

One of the reasons I love Advocare is because this company is really all about leadership. I know it's a health and wellness company but bear with with me! I've attended a few leadership conferences in my day; sorority leadership conferences, student government leadership conferences, law school/professional leadership organizations, you get it, I've been to a lot. Advocare's success school is right on par with all of those, only it was packed into 8 hours.

Like other Advocare events, there were success stories. People who have lost this much weight, and people who have made this much money... But that's not what this was about. Success school is about what you can do to better yourself, better those around you, better the relationships you have with the people around you, and build a very viable business while you do it.
Just by listening to the people who Advocare picked to speak at this event it is easy to see that Advocare is a company with integrity and they want their distributors to act with integrity too. One of the speakers mentioned this "Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand." That could not be truer for this company.

A year ago if had you told me I would be talking to my friends, family, and even strangers about supplements and health stuff I would have asked if you were on something, but this "stuff" is way more than health supplements. It really is a tool that can help a lot of people when they really need it. And it's about a community of people trying to make a difference.
Apparently more than half of us don't drink the recommended about of water on a daily basis, which means we live in a perpetual state of dehydration! So I googled side effects of dehydration and I found this video by Chris and Heidi Powell, who I love from Extreme Weight Loss. You'll have to follow the link but it's worth it. Surprising effects of dehydration
So here's a recap:

Side Effects of no drinking enough water: Chronic fatigue, headaches, a slow down in your metabolism - Hello! No one wants any of that!

The recommended amount: drinking half you body weight in ounces of water --"Holy buckets!" Ha! That's my favorite!

Drink cold water to hydrate faster, and warm water to stay full longer

Hangover cures: take as many gulps of water as your age before bed. Hey you know what else works, a Spark as soon as you wake up! Seriously I did it a few weeks ago and felt better in no time! Even made it to 10am Yoga!

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a water bottle or app that remedied you that you need to take a sip of water throughout the day so you avoid dehydration all together? WELL... check out this pretty cool bottle that has been developed and is about to start production. They just need enough support to show that people really do want this bottle. I personally can't wait for it to come out!

First off I was feeling pretty horrible with a cold but if I was going to get sick I'd rather be sick while I'm at home all cozy at my parent's house.
My family has clearly been listening to all my fitness talk and goals because I was showered with Lululemon and Nike clothes so I can look super stylish while I'm getting my sweat on in 2014!
You know which ones I'm talking about, where he doesn't look sick at all after taking it. Ha! Don't I wish it worked as well as those commercials but I was down and out for 3 days, so hitting the gym was out of the question. On the plus side, I did get some excellent restorative sleep! So forgive me, there is no Day 5.

I don't know about you but when I'm sick all I want to eat is carbs, and all I want to do is sleep, an awful combo for someone trying to shed fat and sculpt a ripped, lean figure. On top of that it was Christmas so I ate all the usual no good for you Holiday goodies. But my favorite saying applies here: One day of poor eating won't make you fat, just like going to church one Sunday won't make you a Saint! So True!

Anyway, I woke up feeling like myself again this morning so it's time to pick up where I left off. I really wish I was back in SD at my usual gym today but I'm not and I don't have time to go find a different gym that will let me use the facilities without paying (yes, I'm cheap). Home workout it is!
So here's the workout for today to burn off the all the holiday deliciousness curtesy of instagram user fitness_food_motivation. If you aren't following them, you should they have great motivational pics, workouts and clean eating recipes.
Plus I don't want to spread these germs to anyone else. (GROSS!)

It's still early in the evening on Day 4 though and I just got some cold medicine in my system so I'm hoping to do these short stretching and abs videos from Casey Ho's Blogilates. I really like her videos if you can't get to the gym but you have about 30+ minutes to get moving at home or say if you are traveling and staying in a hotel room. She also has some really cute clothes in her shop so you should check that out. ;)

http://www.blogilates.com/abs/

Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow and I'll be trying out a gym with a steam room and sauna to help get rid of whatever this bug is.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10333091364136342267noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1387680380148332552.post-60695711274752091212013-12-20T18:13:00.000-08:002013-12-23T15:57:36.032-08:0012 Days of Fitness Day 1 and Day 2

Day 1 - Eco Gym

Today I tried out this really cool gym in Naperville (my hometown) called Eco Gym. I dragged my mom along with me today for some mommy-daughter time. ;)

I LOVE the concept of this gym! I wish it was in California, in fact if they franchise this gym I would totally invest. I'll attach a video below that explains how this gym works because it's pretty genius. They have machines that turn the kinetic energy we create working out into kilowatts to add that energy to their grid. (I'm no engineer so I can't explain it any further than that but I know it's pretty awesome!) On top of that the more you check into to and use this gym the less your monthly dues are! 40+ workouts a month and your dues could be less than $6 a month. How much do you wish that was true of your gym? Not only that this gym has hyerbaric chambers available for their members to use, which increases the red blood cell production in your body reducing recover time.

So after the tour and talking with the gym for a while, completely in awe of this place, Mom and I jumped on these really cool treadmills (Eco mill) that are self powered and burn about 30% more calories than a regular motorized treadmill, then did some legs and hit the road.

Day 2 - Back to Eco Gym

Today I went back to Eco Gym, I really really like this place! AND my mom is actually the one who asked to go back today :). So Hopefully I've got Mom hooked.

We hit those super cool treadmills for a warm up and moved on to some back and shoulders.

So I've designed a Challenge for my self and I'm calling it "The 12 Days of Fitness" running from Dec 20 - Dec 31. I'm going to workout all 12 days (not all will be super intense workouts because your body does need a few days of rest) but I'm going to try several different gyms in the Naperville, IL area.

Not only am I doing this to keep up with my fitness goals and prime myself for the incredible body transformation I have planned for 2014 but I'm also hoping to drag my family along with me and maybe get them to jump in the bandwagon too. ;)

Now I know I missed the typical 12 day of Christmas countdown but that's fine because I need this to go through New Years as well. So Stay tuned for my updates and keep me accountable!

So one of my very good friends sent me a Facebook message saying "ok tell me about this Advocare stuff" so I tried to give her a quick and dirty explanation of the 24 day Challenge. I figure this explanation might be helpful to others as well. Here is what I told her (yes, I copy and pasted this response from Facebook):

So the 24 Day Challenge is made up of 2 phases. The easiest way to describe the challenge is a kickstart to a healthier lifestyle and weight loss goals.

The first phase is a 10 day cleanse that will kind of reset your body and prepare it to absorb all the nutrition that comes in the second phase. (Don't be scared by the term cleanse, it's not the type that will send you running to the potty all day long). This phase is going to get rid of the toxins in your body and restore the good bacteria in your tummy. You'll cut out processed foods (dairy, white bread, refined sugar, alcohol, etc.) and eat clean during these 10 days. But it all pays off, the average weight loss is about 5-10 pounds!

The second phase is the Max phase which is really going to pump your body full of nutrition. This phase is 14 days. You will continue to eat pretty clean but can enjoy alcohol, coffee and dairy in moderation now (notice the order I put those in, clearly says something about me :)). Again, you see weight loss/inches lost here and muscle gain. (Not body builder muscle but muscle to help support a healthy metabolism).During the whole challenge you are eating real food with the exception of a meal replacement shake for breakfast in the second phase. This is one of the reasons I prefer Advocare to other programs because you need to know what foods to choose after the challenge to continue on to more weight loss and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

So there you go, that's my quick and dirty explanation of the 24 Day Challenge. I will gladly answer any questions you may have if you leave them in the comments or email me. And keep and eye out for my group challenge competitions!

I've just finished my 24 Day Challenge and I feel great! It's hard to believe the results I've seen from these products. One of the reasons I decided to become an Advocare distributor is because I was looking for a way to make extra money so I could give back in the way I always hoped. Since New Years' Resolutions are upon us, I'm going to get a jump in my resolutions to give back. I will donate a portion of the sales from the following products to Make a Wish if you order them from me in December 2013:

Spark Box (packets) - $1.50
Spark Canisters - $3.00
24 Day Challenges - $10.00

*In addition if you comment below that you are losing for Make a Wish in the January Challenge I will donate 10% of the total group weight loss to Make a Wish!

I was the most excited about spark. Since I’ve started working in my current position I’ve become dependent on coffee. Despite what all the research and medical studies are saying about the health benefits of coffee, the coffee drinks I like are not healthy! They are loaded with milk, syrups, artificial flavoring, you name it. Even if I order my usual caramel or peppermint latte with nonfat milk I’m still looking at about 290 calories that I’m consuming in one beverage. So when I heard about spark I was stoked! Only 45 calories, no sugar, and energy without feeling jittery? I’m in!

All my advocare goodies showed up last night but my 24 day challenge isn’t starting until the 1st. I was so excited that I figured I’d at least try the spark and see if it is as amazing as all the reviews I’ve read or watched on YouTube. I received the watermelon flavor in my distributor kit so I grabbed that one this morning since one of the reviews (Mitch's review in particular) raved about the flavor.

Flavor:

The instructions say to mix the packet with 8oz of water, I generally like stuff like this a little bit watered down so I tried mixing it with about 10-12oz. WOW! Still way too much flavor for me. I have a grande sized Starbucks tumbler that I drink from at work so I just went ahead and filled that baby up. Now it’s more to my liking, and I’m getting in about a cup more of water that I should be drinking anyway. I don’t know if watermelon is going to be my favorite flavor though. But that is not surprising considering I don’t usually like watermelon flavored anything; with the exception of jolly ranchers and this is definitely not that jolly rancher watermelon flavor. It’s not terrible but I’ll probably prefer the orange flavor.

Energy:

Maybe you’ve seen those funny somecards or the pictures on pinterest with whatever funny looking animal who’s eyes are bugging out of his little head with a caption along the lines of “I put redbull in my coffee this morning and now I can see sounds!” Yeah I’m not all about that feeling. Which is why I steer clear of redbull or monster energy drinks. So I’m happy to tell you SPARK IS NOT LIKE THAT. I don’t feel wired. I don’t feel like I’m moving at warp speed while the rest of the world is standing still. I’m just here, awake, doing my job; exactly what I was hoping for! The last few days, right before lunch I’ve felt like I was dragging but today I’m focused and getting stuff done. I’m also not super hungry which is a plus in my book!

All in all I think this stuff is pretty great!

My story about how I found out about advocare is a little different than most. I didn’t have a friend who lost weight using it, I didn’t get talking into by some independent distributor that I thought was trying to sell me something. I had a friend who I trust very much as far as nutrition and fitness goes, tell me “hey, have you ever heard of Advocare? The 24 day Challenge? Google it, there’s a challenge starting in November. I’m starting on the first and so are you.” She might have said it a little nicer than that. In fact I know she did. But what’s important is that this was a friend who I’ve confided in, looked up to, someone who has been with me for the past year and a half in my battle with weight, and most of all someone I trusted about nutrition. This friend is a fitness instructor, an anatomy professor, she has an advanced degree in biology and most importantly an amazing figure that she works her butt off for. So if she said this was good product, it’s good, I know is safe, I’m doing it. End of story.

So ok, I didn’t just blindly jump in and agree to start this challenge thing on the 1st of the month without doing some research. I am a lawyer after all and I do my due diligence before I put something in my body and expect it to work. I checked out the website, and then I hit up Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Now you might be thinking “Wow. Really reliable sources, JB!” But here’s the thing, I already told you that my friend who recommended it is a science girl. I know she’s already looked at the research and the medical studies and if it didn’t pass muster she wouldn’t have brought it up. So I wanted to see what real people like me are saying about this “Advocare stuff.” The reviews were overwhelmingly positive. People were seeing amazing results and seemed to love the products. Of course there were a few negative reviews but not nearly as many as the positive reviews. Not only that but Advocare has a lot of pro athlete endorsers which really spoke to me, I later found out that Drew Brees is the only endorser who is monetarily compensated. All the other endorsers do just because they love the products. I happen to be a Dallas Cowboys fan so below is a video of Jason Witten talking about the products.

The more research I did the more I really loved the company I was reading about. So I signed up right away as a distributor. Let's see how the next month goes. I can't wait!
